Case #001

Fever detection robot for pandemics

CASESTUDY #001 - #NOFEVER

My work included:

User interaction

Facilitating user tests and pinpointing pain points aswell as general user experience of the physical experience of the robot.

Software development and design

Using React native the software was created for apple ipads, which a mounted as the userinterface.

Brilliant UX challenge

To maximize the effectivness of reduction, the device had to be hands off/No physical contact. therefore the design had to be done with automating interactions in mind.

Bonus

An added bonus was receiving the official title of "Inventor". Yay!

Process and case:

What is the purpose of the robot?

To make automatic contactless temperature checks for employees, visitors and customers to identify abnormal body temperatures.
Thereby reducing spread of infections during pandemics.

Ekstra features included:
Face mask detection to remind the user to wear a mask.
An attached hand sanitizer.

What is the solution/final product?

The solution is a robot that automatically adjusts its height to any user.
It scans the user when they are at the optimal distance from the attached temperature sensor.
Giving them a status displayed on the screen, to let them know if they have abnormal temperatures and if they are wearing a mask.
Additionally it reminds them to use the attached hand sanitizer.

Product demonstration:

User flow:

The user flow is largely guided by what is displayed on the screen.
The robot displays an animation loop on how to use the robot before the user is in front of the robot.
The second screen is activated when the user is very near or in front of the robot.
The robot then automatically adjusts its height to the user.
This screen guides the user to have the optimal distance to the temperature sensor.
The scan begins and after a few seconds a result is shown on the screen.

Icons:

To quickly convey the result in a precise and universally understandable manner symbols and icons played a big role.

I designed and tested various icons and symbols and ended with the final result showed below.

a minimalistic approach with colors to highlight and direct attention to the important part of the information, such as temperature and mask status.

I used recognizable colors referencing traffic lights, like red yellow and green to emphasize the message.
